When to go to São Vicente?
Thanks to its dry tropical climate, São Vicente can be visited all year round. The best period is undoubtedly from November to June. During this time, the season is dry, with pleasant temperatures between 22 and 27°C. Ideal for those who wish to enjoy the sea and excursions.
For music and party lovers, February, with the famous Carnival, and August, with the Baia Das Gatas Festival, are the perfect months to immerse yourself in the culture of this island.
Internal and international connections
The Cesária Évora Airport of São Vicente (VXE) is well connected with internal flights and some international routes. For European routes, it is almost always necessary to make a stopover in Lisbon, from which you can continue with a 4-hour flight.
Other reachable islands:
- Santo Antão: reachable only by departing from São Vicente, in about 1 hour by ferry.
- Sal: internal flight of about 1 hour.
- Boa Vista: internal flight of about 1 hour.
- Santiago: internal flight of about one hour.
- Fogo and Maio: Require stopovers in Praia or Sal to be reached by flight, with variable times between 2 and 3 hours in total.
The Areas of São Vicente
The island is small but varied, and each area has something special to offer:
- Mindelo city: The pulsating heart of the island, famous for its music, nightlife, and colonial architecture.
- Baía das Gatas: Very calm and crystal-clear waters, an area famous for the music festival held every August.
